The Origin of the Mind Map

Mind Map

The idea of creating a mind map comes from the idea that the human brain does not work linearly like we do when we read or write essays.

The human brain works through a process of association. What is the association process? Is it a process that connects thought to another thought continuously, usually through the experience of what we see, hear, and feel?

The brain can work optimally if the left brain and right brain can work simultaneously.

When viewed from the role of the left brain and right brain have different ways of working.

The left brain is the brain that has a role for short-term thinking such as thinking logically, calculating, anything related to language activities such as writing, reading, speaking, listening, making work priorities, and making details or a list.

On the other hand, the right brain is the brain that has a role in thinking conceptually, imaginatively, emotionally, such as feeling sad and angry, and when daydreaming.

The nature of right-brain memory is long term in contrast to the left brain.
So we need a note-taking method that can involve patterns of associations and pictures so that our brains are more optimal in remembering, analyzing, and getting ideas.

Benefits of Mind Map

A mind map is a tool created to make it easier for someone to think (including remembering and looking for ideas) according to how the human brain works.

Using a mind map, we can make associations between topics and sub-topics, visualization in the form of images, and visualization in colors and keywords in the form of text.

Mind maps are now widely used for various purposes, such as taking notes, making summaries, studying, finding ideas or solutions, and different other purposes.

• The length of the branch is adjusted to the length of the word.
• The closer to the center of the branch’s mind map, the thicker, or the farther, it is getting thinner.
• The shape of the branches radiates in all directions with a maximum number of 5-9 according to the comfort zone of human short-term memory.
• A word is written in 1 word, which is a keyword written in printed letters and a maximum slope of 45 degrees.
• The farther from the center of the mind map, the smaller the letter size.
• Images or Symbols can be used to reinforce or replace keywords.
